The YWCA are funding and project managing a medium density housing evelopment in Bendigo to support families that have been displaced because of domestic violence.
The external spaces were designed to extend the private space of each family, allowing them to grow their own gardens and develop and feel secure in a place of their own. As well as individual vegetable gardens, the landscape was designed to provide a variety of fresh fruit throughout the overall development, allowing residents to share produce and build relationships.
The planning permit drawings effectively responded to requirements for indigenous vegetation, permeable surfacing and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).
