La Trobe University Engineering Building Surrounds
Client: La Trobe University, Bendigo Status: Constructed 2019 Category: Educational Environments
The completion of a significant new building required landscape architectural design to stitch the building seamlessly into the surrounding campus.
The design allows for various spaces for studying, socialising and recreation, while providing an interesting view from the upper levels of the building. Engagement with the campus indigenous liaison officer resulted in the planned incorporation of elements and interpretation relating to indigenous technologies.
A largely indigenous palette of plants was chosen, with particular inclusion of species known for their use by Dja Dja Wurrung as weapons, bush tucker or medicine.
